Story
Kinozen, a Kagurazaka institution with a 160-year history, closed on September 30, 2022, as its owner grew older and no successor was in place. It returned on July 18, 2025. Although a new company now runs the shop, its former proprietress oversees the revival alongside an artisan who made its sweet bean paste for more than 25 years. Together, they have recreated the old Kinozen, bringing back its matcha bavarois and cream anmitsu.
History
This shop with a 160-year history closed on September 30, 2022, and reopened on July 18, 2025. Its sweet bean paste uses exactly the same ingredients and methods as the previous generation.
How to visit
Matcha bavarois reportedly sold out around 11:30 on reopening day, so arrive early if you want it. Weekends may be very competitive.
